Description

The aim of Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030 is to “transform Qatar into an advanced society capable of achieving sustainable development” by 2030. The vision outlines several distinct challenges facing Qatar’s environment, which include a rapidly growing population, increased air pollution, and damage to natural habitats. To address environmental issues, Qatar has decided to acquire more advanced and green technologies in different critical sectors.

Aligning with the same QNV 2030 aims, the Ministry of Transport and Communication (MOTC) aspiring vision 2023 has planned for the electrification of Public Transport (PT). Consequently, this mandates the Mowasalat to align its transportation fleet and capabilities to QNV 2030 and MOTC’s directive towards EBus Transition Plan 2023.

However, Technical Evaluation Subcommittee (TES) is seeking alternative ways to minimize cost and carbon emissions from the transportation sector. To achieve this objective, electric and diesel buses will be compared from the life-cycle perspective by quantifying a set of sustainability indicators, including Global Warming Potential (GWP) and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), etc. This project aims to design a TCO framework for electric bus alternatives from life-cycle cost perspective.
